One of the most frequent questions we are asked is, “How much power will my solar system produce?” Alternatively, the same question asked a little differently, “How many kWh will my system produce per month?“
To answer that question properly, there are several factors to consider, including how much sunlight your system receives each day, the angle of installation, monthly irradiance losses, snow losses, local weather, including average number of sunlight hours obscured by clouds, and of course, how many solar panels you have.
Below we list some tables based upon various size systems. We list one table if the system was located in downtown Portland – the Cross Insurance Arena to be exact – and the other table if the system was located in downtown Bangor, at the Cross Insurance Center.
While these are estimates based upon calculations that use average weather patterns, you’ll likely find that the estimates are quite close to what you will actually see from your system.
With that being said, here is the table that shows the projected output for a 2,000 watt solar panel system installed in downtown Portland:

And here is the table that shows the projected output for the same 2,000 watt solar panel system installed in downtown Bangor. Notice the projection is in the ballpark of what is projected for Portland, but it is slightly lower:

Now we will take a look at the projected output for a 4,500 watt solar panel system installed in downtown Portland:

Lastly, here is the table that shows the projected output for a 7,000 watt solar panel system installed in downtown Portland:

The above information is essential to consider when deciding what size solar panel system you’d like to have installed at your home or business. You can compare the kWh estimated to be produced by your system to your monthly CMP or Versant Power bill. You can also view our infographic to estimate your monthly kWh needs.
Of course, when deciding the size of the system you’re planning on, the cost may be a factor. Please visit our page that provides guidance on the anticipated total cost to have various sized systems installed at your home or commercial location.
